I am a self-proclaimed “Blerd” and have been interested in the arts since I was a child from singing on the choir, being on the dance team, writing short stories, and acting in school plays. As a future public health professional, I’m interested in arts in health along with the intersection between the media and culture. My target population is Black women and girls. I aspire to start my own non-profit organization centered around making mental healthcare and treatment more accessible for low-income and at-risk youth. I like to try new things and I consider myself a free spirit. I graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with Concentrations in Psychology & Criminology from Johnson C. Smith University. I’m currently in my final year at NYU School of Global Public Health getting my MPH with a Concentration in Community Health Science & Practice.

Meet Roshelle

Yoga has been a part of my life for the past 4  years, and literally saved my life during a dark period. Being introduced to Yoga back then helped me find safety again in my body, and to realize that my body holds memories and pain and trauma too, and it also deserves to be released and loved. Through this journey, I’ve discovered I can breathe easier and connect fully with myself in ways I did not realize before.

I completed my 200 hour Hatha Yoga training with Yoga Blue Fitness in Tarpon Springs, Florida and a  32 hour online “Yoga for Trauma” training offered by The Center for Yoga and Trauma Recovery in Oakland, CA. I will always be a student of the practice and am deeply grateful for the loving wisdom my teachers have shared with me.

In my classes, I love to combine creative sequencing, a spirit of playfulness and a dose of inspiration to help you deepen your practice. I’m always learning as well, so I try not to take myself too seriously, so don’t be surprised if I’m joking around a bit. Silliness helps keep joy alive. I seek to help others find some moments of peace while you’re with me and my hope is that you step off the mat feeling refreshed, nourished and balanced.

Meet Janae

Classes: Zumba Lunch Breaks

Janae Lenette Smith is a Zumba® Education Specialist (ZES™) and Fitness Professional from Delaware. She became a licensed Zumba® Fitness Instructor in 2013 after discovering the program through the Zumba® Fitness video game on the Nintendo Wii. Janae is also a Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. After graduating from the University of Delaware in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in English as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Music Management, she decided to pursue fitness full time. Her motto is, “You are LIMITLESS.” To her, this means that nothing is impossible if you pray for it, work towards it, and believe in it. Her goal is to spread positivity and inspire others to follow their dreams, pursue their goals, and have confidence as they work towards becoming the best versions of themselves. 

Zumba® is an International Dance Fitness Program where we dance to music and rhythms from around the world. It’s an exercise in disguise; you don’t even realize you are working out because you are having so much fun! No dance or workout experience necessary! Grab your water and a towel and get ready to have an amazing time!

Juliette Hayt is a New York based Artist and Art Therapist who is committed to providing accessible holistic arts practices to Women through creating an environment of creativity, accessibility, warmth and inclusivity. She completed a BFA in painting from New York University and Masters of Professional Studies in Art Therapy from School of Visual Arts, with a Concentration in Addictions. Her passions include studying Women’s menstrual, Sexual and Reproductive Health, drawing, painting and practicing yoga.

Meet Whitney

Classes: Act Up! Act Out!

Whitney Bell, MA is a Drama Therapist, Educator, and Community-Engaged Theater Artist. A recent graduate of NYU’s Drama Therapy Master’s program, she is passionate about holistic and sustainable approaches to healing within communities. She is excited about the capacity of theater and arts-based techniques to expand creativity and provide spaces for growth and exploration. She aims to create accessible, brave spaces for all those she serves to express themselves creatively and reclaim their power in support of our ongoing mental health.
